Knowledgebase Billing Your Account Balance Explained

Your Account Balance Explained

Your MintServers account balance is prepaid credit that sits on your account and pays for your servers automatically. Think of it as topping up a wallet: add funds once, and your renewals come out of it without you lifting a finger.

It is also the easiest way to pay if your preferred payment method is not available at normal checkout, and the simplest way to pay for several months in advance.

Why Use Your Balance

  • More payment methods: iDEAL, Bancontact, Przelewy24, giropay and many others work for top ups.
  • Pay ahead: load up several months at once and stop thinking about billing entirely.
  • No card required: useful if you would rather not keep a card on file, or you are paying for someone else's server.
  • Fully automatic: there is no button to press at renewal time. If there is credit on your account, it gets used.

How To Add Funds

  1. Log into your MintServers dashboard and open Balance.
  2. Pick one of the preset amounts, or choose Custom to enter your own.
  3. Click Continue to payment.
  4. Choose your payment method and confirm. Your balance updates within seconds.

Top ups start at 5 per transaction. You can add funds as often as you like.

Ordering A Server With Your Balance

There is no separate "pay with balance" option to hunt for, because your balance is always used first:

  1. Top up your balance so it covers the server you want.
  2. Order your server as normal.
  3. At the last step you will see how much is coming from your balance and how much, if anything, is left to pay.
  4. If your balance covers the whole order, no payment details are needed at all.
Partial Balance Is Fine
You do not need enough to cover the full amount. If your server costs 9.99 and you have 7.00 in your balance, we use the 7.00 and charge the remaining 2.99 to your payment method. You will always see the exact split before you confirm.

How Renewals Work

Every time a server renews, we take the cost from your balance first, then charge your saved payment method for anything still outstanding. Upgrades and add-ons work exactly the same way.

If your balance runs out and there is no payment method on file, the renewal invoice stays open and we will email you a link to pay it. Your server is not deleted the moment a payment is missed, so there is time to top up or add a card.

Keep An Eye On It
Your current balance and your last transactions are always visible on the Balance page in your dashboard. If you are relying on balance alone to keep a server online, top it up before it runs dry.

Common Questions

  • Does my balance expire? No. It stays on your account until you use it.
  • Can I get a refund? Balance is prepaid credit and is non refundable once added, but unused credit stays available for any future order or renewal.
  • Can I use it for upgrades? Yes. Plan upgrades and add-ons such as extra storage, backups or CPU all use your balance first.
  • Which methods can I top up with? Considerably more than at checkout. See our supported payment methods guide for the full list.
