How to Fix the Port Closed Warning in Project Zomboid
If you see a warning in your console saying "Port 16262 is closed", it is because Project Zomboid requires two ports to function correctly: one for the game connection and a second one for Steam communication and voice chat.
If you only have one port allocated, you will get this warning. In this guide, you will learn how to allocate a second port and assign it to your server.
Step 1: Allocate a New Port
First, you need to add a second port to your server's network settings.
- Log into your MintServers game panel.
- On the left-side menu, click on the "Network" tab.
- Click the "Create Allocation" button.
- You should now see two ports listed. The Primary port is your game port. The new port you just created will be your Steam/Voice port.
- Remember this new port number (e.g.,
25566).
Step 2: Update Game Settings
Now you need to tell the server to use this new port for Steam communication.
- On the left-side menu, click on "Game Settings" (sometimes labeled "Startup").
- Find the variable labeled "Steam Port" (or sometimes VOICE_PORT / STEAM_PORT).
- Change the value to the new port number you created in Step 1.
- Make sure your "Server Port" still matches your Primary network port.
Step 3: Restart Your Server
For the changes to take effect, you must restart the server.
- Go to the "Console" tab.
- Click "Restart".
The warning should now disappear, and features like Voice Chat and the Steam Browser list should work correctly.
