How to Fix the Port Closed Warning in Project Zomboid

How to Fix the Port Closed Warning in Project Zomboid

If you see a warning in your console saying "Port 16262 is closed", it is because Project Zomboid requires two ports to function correctly: one for the game connection and a second one for Steam communication and voice chat.

If you only have one port allocated, you will get this warning. In this guide, you will learn how to allocate a second port and assign it to your server.

Step 1: Allocate a New Port

First, you need to add a second port to your server's network settings.

  1. Log into your MintServers game panel.
  2. On the left-side menu, click on the "Network" tab.
  3. Click the "Create Allocation" button.
  4. You should now see two ports listed. The Primary port is your game port. The new port you just created will be your Steam/Voice port.
  5. Remember this new port number (e.g., 25566).

Step 2: Update Game Settings

Now you need to tell the server to use this new port for Steam communication.

  1. On the left-side menu, click on "Game Settings" (sometimes labeled "Startup").
  2. Find the variable labeled "Steam Port" (or sometimes VOICE_PORT / STEAM_PORT).
  3. Change the value to the new port number you created in Step 1.
  4. Make sure your "Server Port" still matches your Primary network port.

Step 3: Restart Your Server

For the changes to take effect, you must restart the server.

  1. Go to the "Console" tab.
  2. Click "Restart".

The warning should now disappear, and features like Voice Chat and the Steam Browser list should work correctly.
