How To Enable Crossplay On Your Valheim Server

Want to explore the Tenth World with your friends, but they play on Xbox or PC Game Pass while you are on Steam? Enabling crossplay on your Valheim server is the perfect solution to bring everyone together.

Crossplay allows Vikings from different platforms to connect and play on the exact same server. Let's get it turned on so you can start building and battling side-by-side.

Important Warning: Enabling crossplay routes your server's connection through Microsoft's PlayFab network, which may slightly increase your ping. Additionally, once enabled, you should not disable it later, as turning it off can break server connections for returning players!

How to Enable Crossplay

Turning on crossplay is just a quick toggle in your MintServers panel settings.

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button. Always make sure your server is offline before making configuration changes.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Game Settings tab.
  3. Scroll down until you locate the Enable Crossplay toggle.
  4. Toggle the setting On.
  5. Head back to the Console tab and click Start to boot your server back up.

Joining a Crossplay Server

When crossplay is enabled, your server will generate a unique 6-digit Join Code every time it starts up. This code is required for players on Xbox or Game Pass to bypass the standard IP connection and join your world.

  • Where to find the code: You can find the Join Code printed right in your server's Console as it finishes booting up. You can also press escape in-game to view it if you are already connected.
  • How to use it: Your console friends simply need to launch Valheim, click Start Game, navigate to the Join Game tab, and enter the code into the Join Code box at the bottom right.

Troubleshooting

If your Xbox friends are getting a "Failed to connect" error, double-check that your server is fully updated and that they are typing the Join Code exactly as it appears in the console. Remember, the Join Code changes every single time the server restarts!

If you're still stuck, or if you accidentally broke your server's connection by toggling crossplay off, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will jump in and get it fixed for you.
