Want to explore the Tenth World with your friends, but they play on Xbox or PC Game Pass while you are on Steam? Good news: crossplay is enabled by default on every MintServers Valheim server, so there is nothing to switch on.
Crossplay allows Vikings from different platforms to connect and play on the exact same server. This guide explains how it works and how your friends on any platform can join.
Crossplay routes your server's connection through Microsoft's PlayFab network, which may slightly increase your ping compared to a direct connection. This is normal and required for cross-platform play.
How Crossplay Works
Every time your server starts up, it generates a unique 6-digit Join Code. This code lets players on Xbox, PC Game Pass, or Steam connect to your world without needing the IP address.
- Where to find the code: The Join Code is printed in your server's Console as it finishes booting up. You can also press Escape in-game to view it if you are already connected.
- The code changes on restart: A new Join Code is generated every time the server restarts, so share the latest one with your friends.
Joining a Crossplay Server
- Launch Valheim and click Start Game.
- Select a character.
- Navigate to the Join Game tab.
- Enter the Join Code into the Join Code box at the bottom right.
- Press Connect.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Crossplay Connections
If your friends are getting a "Failed to connect" error, double-check that your server is fully updated and that they are typing the Join Code exactly as it appears in the console. Remember, the Join Code changes every single time the server restarts!
