How To Change Valheim World Modifiers In-Game

Valheim's world modifiers update gave us the power to customize our Viking journey exactly how we want. While some guides recommend downloading your world files to edit them locally, the absolute easiest and fastest way to tweak these settings is directly in-game using admin commands.

Let's dive into the console commands you need to change your server's difficulty, resource rates, and death penalties on the fly.

How To Open The Console (PC vs Xbox)

Depending on what platform you are playing on, accessing the command input box is a slightly different process:

• For PC (Steam): Press the F5 key on your keyboard. Note that you must have the console enabled in your Steam Launch Options first (by typing -console in the game's properties).
• For Xbox: Hold down the Left Bumper (LB), Right Bumper (RB), Left Trigger (LT), and Right Trigger (RT) all at the same time, and then press the Menu button (the button with three horizontal lines). The console is enabled by default on Xbox, so you do not need to configure any launch settings! Press A to bring up the on-screen keyboard to start typing.

Changing Your World Preset

If you want to apply a sweeping change to all settings at once, open your console and use one of these preset commands:

• setworldpreset Immersive

Toggles and Numeric Values

You can turn specific mechanics on or off using the setkey and removekey commands:

• setkey nomap / removekey nomap
• setkey noportals / removekey noportals

You can also adjust numeric values for finer control. Keep in mind that 100 is the default vanilla value:

• setkey PlayerDamage 150
• setkey EnemyDamage 75
• setkey EnemyLevelUpRate 200
• setkey EventRate 50

Saving Your Changes

After you have set all your desired modifiers, do not forget to force a server save so you do not lose your changes! Just type:

save

Once saved, your new modifiers will be locked in for your world. If anything feels off, you can always open the console and tweak it again.
