How To Add Admins In Valheim

Need some help managing your Viking realm? Whether you need to kick a rule-breaker or just want to have access to server management commands, giving yourself or a friend admin privileges is a crucial step for any server owner.

Adding an admin is super straightforward and just requires pasting a player's ID into a specific text file. Let's get your admin permissions set up!

Important Warning: Always make sure your server is completely stopped before editing configuration files. If the server is still running while you edit, your changes will get overwritten and won't save!

Step 1: Get the Player's ID

Before we can add an admin, we need to know exactly who we are adding. Valheim uses either a Steam64 ID or a PlayFab ID (if crossplay is enabled).

  • For Steam Players: You need their 17-digit Steam64 ID. You can easily find this by pasting their Steam profile link into a website like SteamID.io.
  • For Crossplay/Xbox Players: You need their PlayFab ID. The easiest way to get this is to have them join the server, and then check your server Console. It will print out a message showing their username and their PlayFab ID when they connect.

Step 2: Add the ID to Your Server

Now that you have the correct ID, we need to paste it into your server's admin list file.

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Files tab to open the File Manager.
  3. Navigate through the file structure by clicking through the folders: .config > unity3d > IronGate > Valheim.
  4. 📁 .config
    📁 unity3d
    📁 IronGate
    📁 Valheim
📄 adminlist.txt (Your admin list file)
  5. Click on the adminlist.txt file to open the text editor.
  6. Paste the player's Steam64 ID or PlayFab ID directly into the file. Put only one ID per line.
  7. Hit the Save Content button at the top of the editor.
  8. Head back to the Console and click Start to boot your server back up.

Step 3: Enabling the In-Game Console

Before you can type any commands in-game, you have to enable the console in your Steam settings. By default, pressing F5 won't do anything.

  1. Open your Steam Library and right-click on Valheim.
  2. Select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the General tab, scroll down to the Launch Options box at the very bottom.
  4. Type exactly -console into the text box.
  5. Close the window and launch the game. You can now press F5 to open the console!

List of Multiplayer Admin Commands

Once you are an admin and have the console open, you can manage your server with these essential multiplayer commands:

  • kick [name/ip/userID] - Kicks a player from the server.
  • ban [name/ip/userID] - Permanently bans a player.
  • unban [ip/userID] - Unbans a specific player.
  • banned - Shows a list of all currently banned players.
  • ping - Checks your current ping to the server.
  • info - Prints the current system info.
  • lodbias [number] - Sets the draw distance for the server.

Fun Commands (Cheats)

Important Note: Vanilla Valheim does not allow admins to use cheats (devcommands) on dedicated multiplayer servers! To use the fun commands below, you must install a mod like Server Devcommands on both the server and your game client.

If you have the proper mods installed or are playing in a local single-player world, type devcommands into the console to enable cheats. Then, you can use these fun commands:

  • god - Enables God Mode (invincibility).
  • ghost - Enemies will completely ignore you.
  • heal - Instantly restores your health to full.
  • fly - Toggles flying mode on and off.
  • nocost - Allows you to build freely without needing any materials.
  • spawn [item name] [amount] - Spawns a specific item (e.g., spawn Wood 50).
  • tod [0-1] - Changes the time of day (0 and 1 are midnight, 0.5 is noon). Type tod -1 to reset to default.

Commands Not Working?

If your basic admin commands aren't working, double-check that you entered your ID correctly into the adminlist.txt file and that there are no extra spaces before or after the number. Also, remember to restart the server after adding your ID!

If you're still stuck or need help installing a mod to get devcommands working, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and take a look.
