How to Upload an Existing Avorion Galaxy Save to Your Server

Already have an Avorion galaxy you love? You can move it from singleplayer or another server onto your MintServers server so your friends can join you in it. This guide shows how to find your local save and upload it.

⚠️ Important Warning: Stop your server on the MintServers panel before uploading. If your server already has a galaxy you want to keep, download a copy of its folder first, because uploading can overwrite existing files.

Step 1: Find Your Save On Your PC

Avorion stores each galaxy in its own folder. The default locations are:

📄 Save locations
Windows:
%AppData%\Avorion\galaxies\YOUR_GALAXY_NAME\

Linux:
~/.avorion/galaxies/YOUR_GALAXY_NAME/
💡 Pro Tip: On Windows, press Win + R, type %AppData%\Avorion\galaxies and press Enter to jump straight to your saves.

Inside your galaxy folder you will see items like these. These are what you will upload:

📁 YOUR_GALAXY_NAME (your galaxy folder)
📁 alliances
📁 factions
📁 players
📁 sectors
📄 server.ini (galaxy settings)
📄 modconfig.lua (mod list, if you use mods)

Step 2: Upload To Your Server

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click Stop.
  2. Open the Files tab in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the galaxy folder, then your server's galaxy folder inside it.
  4. Upload the contents of your local galaxy folder (alliances, factions, players, sectors and so on).
  5. Make sure the galaxy folder name on the server matches the galaxy name your server is set to load.
  6. Click Start and check the Console tab to confirm your galaxy loads.
💡 Keep Or Replace Your Settings?
Your saved server.ini contains the settings from your old galaxy. Uploading it replaces the server's current settings. If you would rather keep your current MintServers settings, skip server.ini when uploading. See Server Configuration for details.
💡 Large Save? Use SFTP
Big galaxies can be hundreds of megabytes, which is too large for the browser file manager. For files over 100MB, upload with SFTP instead by following our guide: How to Connect with SFTP (FileZilla / WinSCP).

Before You Move A Save

If you are moving a galaxy from another server, type /save in that server's console and then stop it cleanly before you download the files. Force-closing a server can corrupt the save.

Troubleshooting

🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Server creates a brand new galaxy: The folder name did not match the galaxy name your server loads. Check the spelling and capitalization of both.
  • Players or ships missing: Make sure you uploaded every folder, especially players, sectors, factions and alliances.
  • Upload keeps failing: Your save is probably too large for the browser file manager. Use SFTP instead.
  • Mods missing after upload: Your modconfig.lua lists your mods. Make sure it was uploaded, then see Install Workshop Mods.

Your galaxy is now hosted and ready for your crew to join! If your save refuses to load, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and get it sorted out together.
