How To Change The Version Of Your Valheim Server

Don’t want to stick with Valheim’s current public build? You can change your server to another beta branch—here’s the process..

Switching your server over to the different branch is super easy, but it requires a quick settings change in your panel. Let's get your server updated so you can start exploring the new content!

Important Warning: Worlds that have been loaded on a newer test version cannot be rolled back to the stable live version! Always download a backup of your world to your computer before opting into the Public Test Branch.

How to Switch to the Steam Beta Branch

To change your server version, we just need to update your Steam beta settings and run a quick reinstall to download the new files.

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button. Always make sure your server is offline before making changes.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Game Settings tab.
  3. Scroll down to find the Beta Branch variable box. Delete the word public and type in exactly: default-old.
  4. You can find a full list of available beta branches on the Valheim Dedicated Server SteamDB page.
  5. Now, click on the Settings tab on the left sidebar.
  6. Click the Reinstall Server button and confirm the prompt. Don't worry, this won't delete your world or saves it just tells Steam to download the new test branch files!
  7. Once the installation is complete, head back to the Console and hit Start.

How to Revert Back to the Stable Version

If the test branch is too buggy or you just want to go back to the normal live version of Valheim, the process is exactly the same, just in reverse.

  • Stop your server and go back to the Startup tab.
  • Change the Beta Branch box back to public.
  • Go to Settings and click Reinstall Server again to pull the stable files.

That's it! Remember that you also need to opt into the same version on your own Steam client to connect to the server. If you run into any weird errors or your server gets stuck downloading the update, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will jump in to fix it up.
