How To Change Your Unturned Server Name

Giving your Unturned server a unique and catchy name is the best way to attract new players and help your community find you in the multiplayer server list. By default, your server might have a generic name, but you can change it to whatever you like. There are two easy ways to do this on your MintServers panel.

Important Warning: Always make sure your server is completely stopped before making configuration changes. Editing files or settings while the server is running will cause your changes to be overwritten!

Method 1: Using the Game Settings Tab (Recommended)

The fastest way to change your server name is by using the built-in variables in your panel.

  1. Log into your MintServers control panel and click the Stop button.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar under the Tools section, click on the Game Settings tab.
  3. Locate the Server Name box.
  4. Type your desired server name into the text box.
  5. Head back to the Console tab and click Start to boot up your server with the new name.

Method 2: Editing Your Commands.dat File

If you prefer to configure your server manually or if the game settings variable is not applying, you can edit the core commands file directly.

  1. Log into your panel and click Stop.
  2. Navigate to the Files tab on the left sidebar.
  3. Click through the file manager to locate your Commands.dat file.
  4. 📁 Servers
📁 unturned (or your custom instance name)
    📁 Server
📄 Commands.dat (Click to edit this file)
  5. Click on Commands.dat to open the text editor.
  6. Look for a line that starts with Name and change the text after it. If you have a freshly generated server and the file is empty, simply type Name followed by a space, and then your desired server name.
  7. Do not use colons, equal signs, or quotation marks. Just use a single space between the command and the name itself. Here is an example of how your file should look:
Name MintServers Official 24/7 Survival
Map PEI
Mode Easy
PvE
MaxPlayers 24
Perspective Both
  1. Click the Save Content button at the top of the editor.
  2. Return to the Console tab and Start your server.

Name Formatting Tips

When choosing your server name, keep in mind that extremely long names might get cut off in the server browser. Keep it concise but descriptive.

You can also make your name stand out by including key details about your server right in the title, such as the map you are running, whether it is PvP or PvE, and if you have any mods or kits enabled (e.g., Washington | PvP | Kits/Economy | 24/7).

If your server name still hasn't updated in the server list after following these steps, hit the refresh button on the server browser a few times, as it can take a moment for the master list to update. If you are still stuck, open a support ticket and our team will be happy to assist.
