How to Set an Admin Password and Kick or Ban Players on Your Dragonwilds Server

Moderation on a RuneScape: Dragonwilds server happens in-game, through a Server tab that unlocks with the Admin Password. This guide is in two parts: setting or changing that password from your MintServers panel, then using it in the game to kick and ban. There's also a table at the end showing what the Owner can do that Admins can't, because the difference matters.

Part A: Set the Admin Password

MintServers generates a random Admin Password for every new Dragonwilds server, so you already have one. You'll find it in Game Settings. If you'd rather use your own, or you need to rotate it, here's how.

⚠️ Important Warning: Stop your server on the MintServers panel before you change anything in Game Settings. Dragonwilds throws away config changes made while the server is running. Why Your Dragonwilds Server Settings Aren't Saving.
  1. Log into your MintServers panel and open your Dragonwilds server.
  2. On the Console tab, click Stop and wait for the server to go offline.
  3. Click Game Settings in the left-hand sidebar.
  4. Find the Admin Password field. Copy the existing one if you're keeping it, or replace it with your own.
  5. Save.
  6. Return to the Console tab and click Start.
📝 Note: Changing the Admin Password revokes Admin status from everyone who used the old one. That's the quickest way to remove an admin who shouldn't be one anymore: set a new password, restart, and only share it with the people who should still have it.

Part B: Kick or Ban a Player In-Game

  1. Join your server in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
  2. Press Escape to open the Pause Menu and click Settings.
  3. Open the Server tab.
  4. Enter the Admin Password and confirm. If your Player ID matches the Owner ID, you're already recognised as the Owner and don't need to.
  5. The Server Management screen lists everyone currently connected. Find the player and choose Kick to remove them for now, or Ban to keep them out for good.

A kicked player can rejoin straight away. A banned player is blocked until someone with unban rights lifts the ban, and as the table below shows, that's the Owner only.

Who Can Do What

Role How you get it Kick Ban Unban
Owner Your Player ID matches the Owner ID in Game Settings Anyone Anyone, online or offline Yes
Admin Entered the Admin Password in the Server tab Regular users who are online Regular users who are online No
Regular user Everyone else No No No

The practical upshot: give the Admin Password to friends who'll help keep things civil, but keep the Owner ID as your own account. Only the Owner can undo a ban, ban someone who's offline, or deal with another Admin.

💡 Pro Tip: The server keeps a record of every Player ID that has used the Admin Password, stored in RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/DedicatedServer.ini. Open it from the Files tab if you ever want to see who has been in the Server Management screen.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Admin Problems

  • Admin Password is rejected in-game: The password in Game Settings only applies after a stop and start. Confirm the server was stopped when you saved it, and check for trailing spaces.
  • Can't unban someone: Only the Owner can unban. Make sure you're playing on the account whose Player ID is in the Owner ID field.
  • Can't ban a player who left: Admins can only ban players who are online. The Owner can ban offline players.
  • Someone I removed still has admin: They used the old password before you changed it, and the server was probably running when you saved. Stop, set the new password, save, start.
