Want to change how HumanitZ plays on your server? Community-made mods can add new crafting recipes, raise item stack limits and more. HumanitZ mods come as .pak files, so installing one on your MintServers server is as simple as uploading it to the right folder.
Server-Side vs Client-Side Mods
Before you download anything, check the mod's description page to see where it needs to be installed. HumanitZ mods usually fall into one of two types:
Server-side only:Only the server needs the mod file. Players do not have to install anything. An example is the Exclusive Stack Mod, which raises item stack limits.Client and server:The server needs one file and every player needs a matching client file. If either side is missing, the mod will not work. An example is Crafting Recipes Expanded, which provides a separate server.pakand client.pak.
Step 1: Create a Backup
Mods can affect your world, so it is worth having a restore point before you add one.
- Log into your MintServers panel and open your HumanitZ server.
- Click
Backupsin the left sidebar and create a new backup. - Wait for the backup to finish before moving on.
Step 2: Upload the Mod to Your Server
- Download the server version of the mod to your computer. If it comes as a
.zip, extract it first so you have the.pakfile. - In your panel, click the Stop button to shut down your server.
- Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- Open the
HumanitZServer/Content/Paksfolder:📁 server (your main server directory)
📁 HumanitZServer
📁 Content
📁 Paks (you are here)
📄 HumanitZServer-LinuxServer.pak (the game's own file, leave this alone)
📄 yourmod_P.pak (Upload the mod's .pak file here) - Upload the
.pakfile into that folder. You will see the game's own file,HumanitZServer-LinuxServer.pak, already in there. Do not delete or rename it. - Go back to the Console tab and click Start.
Installing the Client File (Client and Server Mods Only)
If the mod also has a client file, every player who joins your server needs to install it on their own computer. The server and client files must be from the same mod.
- Download the client
.pakfile from the mod's page. - Open your HumanitZ game folder on Steam. By default, the folder you need is
steamapps\common\HumanitZ\HumanitZ\Content\Paks\. - Place the client
.pakfile in that folder. - Launch HumanitZ and join your server. See our HumanitZ Join Server guide if you need help connecting.
Removing a Mod
- Stop your server on the MintServers panel.
- Open the Files tab and go back to the
HumanitZServer/Content/Paksfolder. - Delete the mod's
.pakfile. - Start your server. Players should also remove the client file from their own Paks folder.
Troubleshooting
🛠️ Troubleshooting Mod Issues
The mod has no effect:Check whether the mod needs a client file as well. Client and server mods do not work unless both the server and the players have their matching file.Server won't start after adding a mod:Stop the server, delete the mod's.pakfile from the Paks folder, then start it again. If it boots normally, the mod is the cause.Mod stopped working after a game update:Mods do not always keep up with game updates. Check the mod's page for a newer version, or remove the mod until the author updates it.Two mods clash:The mod's page may list which game data it changes (for example, Crafting Recipes Expanded states that it is not compatible with other mods that modify the same crafting data). Try removing one of them.Something went wrong with your world:Stop the server and restore the backup you made in Step 1 from the Backups tab.
Your server is now running with mods! If a mod still will not load after following these steps, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly take a look.
