Ready to upgrade your Minecraft server to support plugins for version 26.1.2? When moving away from Vanilla Minecraft, you will usually choose between two main server software options: Spigot and Paper. While both allow you to run plugins, choosing the right one can make a massive difference in how your server performs.
Let us walk through the differences and get your server upgraded to 26.1.2!
⭐ Why We Strongly Recommend Paper
Because MintServers operates on high-quality shared hosting environments, Paper is the absolute best choice for your server. Paper is a fork of Spigot that includes massive performance optimizations, fixes gameplay bugs, and drastically reduces lag. Unless a specific plugin explicitly requires Spigot, you should always choose Paper for a smoother experience.
Method 1: The Easy Way (Server Versions Tab)
The fastest and most straightforward way to upgrade your server is by using our built-in version installer right from your panel!
- Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button to ensure your server is completely offline.
- On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Server Versions tab.
- Select Paper (Recommended) or Spigot from the list of available software.
- Choose version 26.1.2 from the version dropdown menu and click install. The panel will automatically download and set up the correct files for you!
Method 2: Manual Installation
If you prefer to manually download and upload the files yourself, follow these steps.
- For Paper (Recommended): Head over to the official PaperMC Downloads page. Select version 26.1.2 and download the latest build available.
- For Spigot: If you absolutely must use Spigot, you can download the compiled
.jarfiles from community sites like GetBukkit. Find version 26.1.2 in the version history and click download.
Once you have your .jar file:
- Click the Stop button in your panel to ensure your server is offline.
- On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Files tab to open your File Manager.
- Click the Upload button and select the
.jarfile you just downloaded to your computer. - Once the upload is complete, right-click the new file, select Rename, and change the name to exactly
server.jar. (Note: You can delete your old server.jar first if it still exists).
Step 3: Start Your Server
Whether you used the Server Versions tab or installed it manually, it is time to boot up!
- Head back to the Console tab on the left sidebar.
- Click Start. As the server boots up, it will generate a few new folders, including a
pluginsfolder where you can now drop all of your custom plugin files!
🛠️ Troubleshooting Your Installation
Plugin and Mod Compatibility: Some plugins or mods are not compatible with newer versions of Minecraft! Major updates can completely break older add-ons. If your server is crashing or features are missing after upgrading, make sure to check whether your specific plugins or mods explicitly support version 26.1.2. You will likely need to visit the developer's page to download their newest updates.
Java Version: If your server continues to crash on startup, double-check that you are using the correct Java version for 26.1.2. Newer Minecraft updates often require the latest Java releases (such as Java 21 or higher). You can easily change your Java version in the Startup settings tab.
