How To Configure Your Rust Server

Customizing your Rust server is the best way to create a unique survival experience for your players. Whether you want to change the server name, adjust the map size, or set a specific map seed, you can do it all directly from your MintServers panel.

Let us walk through how to configure your basic game settings and access your advanced configuration files.

Step 1: Basic Panel Settings

The easiest way to configure your server is through our built-in panel interface.

  1. Log into your MintServers game panel and select your Rust server.
  2. Navigate to the Game Settings tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Here, you can easily adjust common settings such as:
    • Server Name: How your server appears in the public browser.
    • Max Players: The maximum number of survivors allowed online.
    • Map Size: The physical size of your world (e.g., 3000 to 4500).
    • Seed: A specific number to generate a particular map layout.
  4. After making your changes, hit the Save button.

Step 2: Advanced Configuration (server.cfg)

For more advanced settings, such as adding a server description, customizing the server URL, or changing decay rates, you will need to edit your server configuration file directly.

  1. On the left-hand sidebar, navigate to the Files tab to open your File Manager.
  2. Follow this folder path: server / my_server_identity / cfg.
  3. Locate the server.cfg file and click on it to open the text editor.
  4. Add your desired configuration variables, one per line. For example:
๐Ÿ“„ server.cfg
server.description "Welcome to our custom Rust survival server!"
server.url "https://mintservers.com"
decay.scale 0.5
  1. Click Save Content when you are finished.

Step 3: Apply Your Changes

Rust only reads your configuration settings when the server initially boots up.

  1. Navigate back to the Console tab on your panel.
  2. Click Restart to reboot your server. Your new settings will apply immediately upon startup!

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Troubleshooting Configuration Issues

My map size or seed didn't change: If you change the map size or seed, you must wipe your current server map for the new procedural generation to take effect. You can do this by deleting your current .map file in the server/my_server_identity directory.

No worries if your settings are still not applying correctly! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and instruct you on how to resolve the configuration.
