How To Change The Default Map On Your s&box Server

s&box offers a massive library of user-generated content, including more custom maps than you can count. Whether you're sticking to the classics or hosting a brand-new community creation, changing your s&box map is a seamless process through the MintServers control panel.

⚠️ Gamemode Compatibility:
Since there are over 100 different gamemodes available, some may not be compatible with custom maps and will instead load their own internal environments. When in doubt, you can leave your server's MAP field empty to allow the game to automatically select the correct map for your chosen gamemode.

Step 1: How to Find a s&box Map's Identifier

If you need to manually enter a map ID into your server, use the map identifier, which can be created with the following method:

  1. Visit the s&box map workshop in your browser and click on the map you wish to host.
  2. Look at your browser's address bar. The identifier is the part of the URL following sbox.game/.
  3. In the gamemode ID, you will replace the forward slash (/) with a period (.).
ℹ️ Example:
If the URL is sbox.game/facepunch/flatgrass the identifier is facepunch.flatgrass.

Step 2: Update Your MintServers Panel

Once you have your map identifier ready, you can easily load it onto your server through the panel settings.

  1. Log in to your MintServers game panel and select your s&box server.
  2. Locate Game Settings in the left-hand menu of your control panel.
  3. Find the MAP setting field.
  4. Type your custom Identifier (e.g., facepunch.flatgrass) directly into the field and press Enter.
  5. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save your configuration.
  6. Restart your server for the new map to initialize.
