How to Add a Custom Server Icon to Your Minecraft Server

Want to make your Minecraft server instantly recognizable? Adding a custom server icon is the perfect way to brand your community and make your server pop in the multiplayer list.

Uploading a custom icon is incredibly simple, especially with our dedicated panel tools. Let's get your new logo formatted correctly and uploaded to the server!

Important Warning: Minecraft is extremely picky about server icons! Your image must be exactly 64x64 pixels and it must be saved as a .png file. If the dimensions are off by even a single pixel, or if it is saved as a .jpg, the game will completely ignore it.

How to Set It On MintServers

We recently added a dedicated button to the MintServers panel to make this process as seamless as possible!

  1. Prepare your image using an editor like Photoshop or Photopea. Ensure the canvas size is exactly 64x64 pixels and save it as a PNG file.
  2. Log into your MintServers panel.
  3. Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  4. At the top right of the file manager, locate and click the blue Change Icon button, which is located directly between the Create Directory and Upload buttons.
  5. Select your prepared .png image from your computer. The panel will automatically handle the naming and placement for you!
  6. Head over to the Console tab and Restart your server to apply the changes.

Manual Upload Method

If you prefer to do things manually or are transferring files via SFTP, follow these steps instead.

Step 1: Prepare Your Image File

Before we upload anything to the panel, we need to make sure your logo is ready.

  1. Create or resize your desired server logo using an image editor.
  2. Ensure the canvas size is exactly 64x64 pixels.
  3. Save the image as a PNG file.
  4. Rename the saved file to exactly: server-icon.png. Make sure all the letters are lowercase and that there is a hyphen in the middle!

Step 2: Upload the Icon

Now that your image is perfectly formatted, we just need to drop it into your server's root folder.

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button. Always shut down your server before making file changes.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on the Files tab to open the File Manager.
  3. You are currently in the root directory. This is exactly where the file needs to go! Do not click into any other folders.
  4. 📁 / (Root Directory)
📄 server-icon.png (Upload your image right here)
    📄 server.properties
    📁 world
  5. Click the standard Upload button and select the server-icon.png file from your computer.
  6. Once the upload finishes, head back to the Console tab and click Start.

How to View Your New Icon

To see your new logo in action, open Minecraft and navigate to the Multiplayer menu. Your server should now be proudly displaying your custom icon next to its name!

Note: If you already had your server saved in your list, you might need to click the "Refresh" button at the bottom of the multiplayer screen for the game to pull the new image from the server.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Icon Issues

  • Icon is still the default gray server logo: Double-check your file properties. Is it exactly 64x64 pixels? Is it definitely a .png file? Is it named exactly server-icon.png with all lowercase letters?
  • Uploaded to the wrong location: The icon will only work if it is in the main root directory (the very first page you see when you click the Files tab). If you accidentally dropped it into your world folder or plugins folder, just select it, click move, and bring it back to the root directory.

If you have checked your dimensions and file name and the image still refuses to load, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and instruct you on how to resolve the configuration.
