What is the FTB Skies 2: Aero Modpack?
FTB Skies 2: Aero is the FTB Team's aeronautics-focused skyblock for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, and it flips the usual formula on its head. Instead of standing on a dirt block in the void, you start aboard a working airship - your home, your factory and your transport all in one. The Aero Scoop mounted on the bow harvests raw materials straight out of the sky, but only while you are actually flying, so movement is progression. Islands are spread far apart, with structures, bosses and loot scattered between them, meaning you will need to build your ship bigger, bolt on thrusters and go find them.
The mod list is a proper kitchen sink: Create with Create: Aeronautics and Aeroworks for flight, Modern Industrialization, Mekanism, EnderIO, Oritech and PneumaticCraft for tech, Ars Nouveau, Malum and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks for magic, plus AE2 and Refined Storage for logistics. Progression is deliberately open rather than heavily gated - follow the quest book or just wander into whichever mod looks interesting. And the endgame? Crafting a gloriously overengineered Piña Colada, then sipping it in a lawn chair at 5pm to be whisked off to the Tropics.
Why Host an FTB Skies 2 Aero Server? Aero is built for crews. You can start on the Ole Classic airship, a Minimalist Island, Compact Skies or a Void Boat, then pool your resources to build one enormous shared vessel - or a fleet. Moving contraptions and physics-driven airships are genuinely demanding on a server, so you want a host with strong hardware, unlimited memory (which MintServers provides for only $9.99!), and rock-solid stability. Order your server today and set sail tonight!
Step 1: Installing on the Server
First, we need to load the modpack onto your MintServers panel.
- Log into your MintServers panel and make sure your server is Stopped.
- Navigate to the Modpacks tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- In the search bar, type exactly:
FTB Skies 2 Aero. - Find the official FTB pack and click on it.
- Select the version you wish to play from the dropdown menu (we always recommend the latest release for a brand new world).
- Click Fresh Install to clear out any old incompatible files and lay down the new modpack.
- Once the installation completes, head back to the Console and click Start. The first boot will take several minutes while the pack generates your void world and starting platform!
Step 2: Installing Locally (Client-Side)
Before you can join the server, everyone playing needs to have the exact same modpack installed on their own computers.
- Open the CurseForge App on your computer (the pack is also available in the FTB App if you prefer it).
- Navigate to the Minecraft section and click the Browse Modpacks tab at the top.
- Search for
FTB Skies 2 Aero. - Click the orange Install button next to the pack.
- Once it finishes downloading, switch back to your My Modpacks tab and click Play.
Troubleshooting FTB Skies 2 Aero Issues
Flying factories are enormous fun, but they do ask a lot of both your PC and your server. Here is how to smooth things out:
🛠️ Solutions for Common Modpack Errors
- Client Crashing / Out of Memory: Aero packs hundreds of mods on top of heavy Create contraption rendering. Open your CurseForge settings (the gear icon bottom left), go to Minecraft, and allocate at least 8000MB (8GB) of RAM for your client!
- Server Memory Settings: Do not worry about setting custom Xms or Xmx Java arguments on your server panel! MintServers utilizes automatic Java scaling on our shared hosting, so adding manual limits can actually hurt performance. Let the server manage its own memory automatically.
- Lag While Flying: Every moving block on an airship has to be simulated. If your ship starts stuttering, trim decorative blocks, avoid stacking dozens of running Create machines on the hull while in transit, and try not to have four separate ships flying across the map at once.
- Ship Desync or Rubber-banding: Moving contraptions are the most connection-sensitive part of the pack. Ask players on poor connections to lower their render distance, and have everyone land before logging off rather than quitting mid-flight.
- Version Mismatch Connection Error: If the server rejects your connection, double-check that your CurseForge or FTB App version perfectly matches the version installed on the server panel. Aero is updating very frequently right now, so this is by far the most common cause!
If you or your friends are still having trouble getting into the server, or if the console is throwing startup errors, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and get your airship back in the sky.
