Your entire RuneScape: Dragonwilds world lives in a single .sav file, which makes backups quick and restores even quicker. This guide covers grabbing a copy by hand, letting the panel do it on a schedule, starting a brand-new world, and putting a backup back.
Where the World Is Stored
Every save sits in one folder on your server. Open the Files tab on your MintServers panel and browse to:
📁 RSDragonwilds
📁 Saved
📁 SaveGames
The filename is the world's name in-game. If you see more than one .sav, the server loads whichever is newest on each start.
Backing Up by Hand
- On the Console tab, click Stop. A save copied while the server is running can be mid-write and unusable.
- Open the Files tab and browse to
RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames. - Click the
.savfile and choose Download. - On your PC, rename the downloaded copy with a date, for example
MyWorld-2026-09-14.sav, so you can tell backups apart later. - Click Start to bring the server back.
Using the Panel's Backup Tool
The Backups tab on your panel snapshots the whole server, including the save, into cloud storage that doesn't count against your server's disk. To take one, open Backups in the left-hand sidebar and click Create Backup. Restoring is a click on the same page.
For a hands-off routine, open Schedules, create a schedule (for example 0 4 * * * for 4 AM UTC every day), and add a Create Backup task to it. The full walkthrough, including retention limits, is in How to Set Up Automated Backups.
Starting a Fresh World
Because the server always loads the newest .sav, a fresh world means an empty SaveGames folder. The Default World Name field only kicks in when the folder is empty, so this is also the only way to give a world a new name.
.sav is permanent unless you downloaded it first. Do the manual backup above before you continue.
- Stop the server from the Console tab.
- In the Files tab, download any
.savfiles you want to keep. - Delete every file in
RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames. - Go to Game Settings and set Default World Name to the name you want the new world to have. Save.
- Click Start. The server generates a new Standard world under that name. Tell your friends the new name, since the old one won't show up in search anymore.
Restoring a Backup
- Stop the server.
- In the Files tab, remove whatever is currently in SaveGames (download it first if it might be useful).
- Upload your backup
.sav. If you added a date to the filename, rename it back to the original world name first, since the filename becomes the in-game name. - Start the server. It loads the restored file on boot.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Backup and Reset Problems
Server loaded the old world after I uploaded a backup:There was a newer.savstill in the folder. Stop, clear the folder so only the backup remains, start.Fresh world has the old name:SaveGames wasn't empty when the server started, or the name was changed while the server was running. Stop, empty the folder, set the name, save, start.Downloaded save won't load:It was probably copied while the server was running. Restore from a panel backup instead, and stop the server before manual downloads in future.
