How to Join Your DayZ Server

There are two ways to get into your DayZ server: browsing for it by name in the in-game Community list, or connecting straight to its IP address and port with Direct Connect. This guide covers both methods, plus where to find your connection details on the MintServers panel.

💡 Note: A freshly started or recently restarted server can take a few minutes to appear in the Community list. If it's not showing up yet, Direct Connect will still get you in immediately as long as the server is fully started.

Step 1: Find Your Server's IP Address And Port

Before you can connect using either method, you'll need your server's IP address and port.

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and select your DayZ server.
  2. On the Overview page, find your server's IP Address and Port. Copy both values, since you'll need them to connect.
⚠️ Use The Right Port: DayZ servers use two separate ports. The Port on your Overview page is the game port players actually connect with. The Query Port (found on the Game Settings tab) is only used to make your server visible in the Steam server browser — entering it into Direct Connect will not get you into the game.

Method A: Joining Through The Community List

This is the standard way to find your server if you don't want to type an IP address every time.

  1. Launch DayZ and click Servers from the main menu.
  2. Select the Community tab.
  3. Type your server's name into the search field.
  4. Find your server in the results and click Join.

Method B: Direct Connect

Direct Connect skips the server list entirely and connects you straight to your server's address. This is the faster option, and it's the one to use if your server isn't showing up in the Community list yet.

  1. Launch DayZ and click Servers from the main menu.
  2. Select Direct Connect, in the bottom right of the Servers screen.
  3. Type your server's IP address and port into the address field.
  4. Click Connect.
💡 Pro Tip: If your server has a password set, you'll be prompted to enter it after selecting the server or clicking Connect. Check the "Add to Favorites" box while you're at it, so you can skip re-entering the address next time.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues

  • Server doesn't appear in the Community list: This is normal for a new or recently restarted server and can take a few minutes to propagate. Use Direct Connect in the meantime.
  • Connection times out or fails: Double-check the IP address and port for typos, confirm you used the game port and not the Query Port, and make sure your server shows as fully started on the MintServers panel.
  • Version mismatch error: Your DayZ client and server need to be on the same branch and build. Make sure Steam has fully updated the game, and that your server isn't awaiting an update.
  • Kicked immediately after connecting: If the server is running mods, you'll need the same mods installed on your own game before you can join.
  • Prompted for a password you don't have: Reach out to whoever manages the server for the current password, or remove the password from the Game Settings tab if it's your own server.

Once you've connected the first time, DayZ keeps your server in Favorites or Recent Servers, so future logins only take a couple of clicks. If you're still having trouble getting connected, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will be happy to help you get into your world.
