Change Modpack Version in CurseForge.

Updating a Minecraft modpack is a two-part process that requires coordination between the server owner and the players. First, the server owner must update the server to the new version. Afterwards, every player must update their client to the exact same version to be able to connect. This guide covers both sides of the process to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.

For the the Server-Side

This section is for server owners using the MintServers panel to update the modpack.

CRITICAL: Backup Your Server First!

Before you do anything else, you must create a full backup of your server. This step is not optional. The process of changing a modpack version often involves wiping existing files to prevent conflicts, which can include your world, player data, and configs. Without a backup, this data could be lost permanently.

  1. In your game panel, navigate to the "Backups" tab.
  2. Click the "Create Backup" button and give it a clear name (e.g., "Pre-Update-Backup").
  3. Wait for the backup process to complete fully before proceeding. For extra safety, consider downloading the backup to your personal computer.

Changing the Modpack Version

Once your backup is secure, you can proceed with changing the version.

  1. Navigate to the "Modpack Installer" section in your game panel.
  2. Find your currently installed modpack. It will likely be highlighted.
  3. Click on the modpack. You should see a dropdown menu or list showing all available versions.
  4. Modpack installer showing version selection dropdown
  5. Select the new version you wish to install from the list.
  6. Click the "Install" button and wait for the process to finish.
  7. After the install, restore your world from the backup you created.

For the Client-Side

This section is for players who need to update their modpack version using the CurseForge to match the server.

Changing Your Modpack Version in CurseForge

The safest method is to install the new version as a separate profile. This preserves your old worlds and settings.

  1. Open the CurseForge App and go to the "My Modpacks" section.
  2. Versions tab on a modpack profile page
  3. Click on the modpack profile you want to change, then select the "Versions" tab.
  4. Find the version that matches the server in the list and click "Install".
  5. Install Modpack Version
  6. A new profile will be created. Go back to "My Modpacks" and click "Play" on this new profile to launch the game.

Conclusion

A successful modpack update relies on both the server owner and the players completing their steps correctly. For server owners, the key is to always back up your data before using the installer. For players, using separate profiles in the CurseForge App is the safest way to manage versions. Clear communication between everyone involved is the best way to ensure a quick and easy update.
