Does Romestead Support Mods? (Server Owner's Guide)

If you're setting up a Romestead server for your group, it's worth knowing upfront what modding actually looks like for this game, before you go looking for a mods folder that doesn't exist.

The Short Answer
Romestead has no Steam Workshop and no server-side modding. The mods that do exist are client-side only, meaning they're installed on a player's own game copy, and they're built for single-player or a listen server (hosting a world directly from the game), not for a standalone dedicated server like the one your MintServers panel runs.

Does Romestead Have Steam Workshop Support?

No. Romestead does not support the Steam Workshop. There's no in-game mod browser, no one-click subscribe, and nothing to install through Steam itself.

Can I Install Mods On My Dedicated Server?

Not in the way you might be used to from other survival games. Romestead's dedicated server is a lightweight, standalone application (it doesn't even require the full game to run), and it doesn't load or support mods of any kind. There's no mods folder to upload files into, and nothing in config.json changes that.

What Mods Are Available, And Where?

There's an active community mod scene on Nexus Mods, built around a BepInEx-style ModLoader. Available mods include things like cheat menus, resource and gameplay tweaks, and all-in-one convenience packs.

The important part: these mods run on the player's own installed copy of the game, not on the server. That makes them suited to single-player, or to a listen server (one player hosting a world directly from within the game, with friends joining by Steam invite or IP). They are not compatible with a persistent dedicated server setup.

Single-Player / Listen Server vs. Dedicated Server

This distinction is the reason mods don't carry over to your dedicated server:

  • Single-player or listen server: the full Romestead game client is running, so client-side mods can hook into it. The trade-off is the world only stays online while the host is playing.
  • Dedicated server: a separate, standalone server application runs the world persistently with no host player needed, but it doesn't run the game client or any mod loader alongside it, so client-side mods have nothing to attach to.

Will Server-Side Modding Be Added Later?

Romestead is still in Early Access, and Beartwigs continues to update the game regularly. There's currently no announced timeline for Steam Workshop or server-side mod support, so this is worth treating as the current state of the game rather than a permanent limitation. If that changes, we'll update this guide.

If you have questions about what's possible on your Romestead server, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will be glad to help you out.
