Troubleshooting Guide: Can't Join Your Minecraft Server?
It can be frustrating when you can't join your Minecraft server, but don't worry! Most connection issues are common and can be fixed with a few simple checks. This guide will walk you through a step-by-step checklist to find and solve the problem.
1. Is the Server Actually Online?
First, let's make sure the server is fully started and ready for players. Go to your Game Panel and check the status indicator.
- Green / Online: The server is running. You can proceed to the next steps.
- Yellow / Starting: The server is still booting up. Please wait a few minutes until it turns green.
- Red / Offline: The server is stopped. Click the Start button to turn it on.
2. Did You Accept the Minecraft EULA?
A new server will not fully start until you accept Mojang's End User License Agreement (EULA). If your server starts and then stops, this is often the cause.
- In the File Manager, find the file named
eula.txt
and click to edit it. - Change the line
eula=false
toeula=true
. - Save the file and Restart your server.
3. Are You Using the Correct IP Address?
A simple typo can prevent you from connecting. Double-check the address you are entering in Minecraft.
- Use the Numeric IP: Always try copying the Server Address (e.g.,
123.45.67.89:25565
) directly from your Game Panel first. This is the most reliable way to connect. - Check Your Subdomain: If you created a custom subdomain (e.g.,
mycoolserver.mintservers.com
), it can sometimes take a few hours for it to become active. If it's not working, use the numeric IP in the meantime.
4. Are Your Mods and Game Version Correct?
This is the most common issue for modded servers and servers running a specific Minecraft version.
- For Vanilla/Plugin Servers: Your Minecraft client version must exactly match the server's version. If your server is on 1.21.8, you must launch the game as 1.21.8.
- For Modded Servers: The modpack and its version must be an exact match. If the server runs "All the Mods 10", you must use that same version from CurseForge or your chosen launcher. Any difference in mods or versions will block the connection.
5. Other Common Connection Errors
- "You are not whitelisted on this server": This means the whitelist is on and your username is not on the list. An admin needs to add you using the command
whitelist add
. - "Invalid Session": This error is from your client, not the server. Completely close Minecraft and the Minecraft Launcher, then reopen them. This usually fixes it.
- Authentication Servers are Down: Sometimes, Minecraft's login servers have issues. This is outside of our control. You just have to wait.
