How to Reset Your Minecraft Server World
Why Reset Your World?
There are many reasons you might want to reset your Minecraft world. Perhaps you want to try a new seed, start a fresh adventure with your friends, or, as is common, you've removed mods that have left strange holes or corrupted chunks in your map. A full world reset gives you a clean, brand-new slate to build on.
IMPORTANT: This Action is Permanent!
Before you begin, it is critical to understand that deleting your world is irreversible. All buildings, player inventories, and any changes you've made to the map will be permanently lost. Please proceed with caution.
Step 1: Create a Backup (Essential)
We cannot stress this enough: always create a backup before making major changes to your server. A backup gives you a complete safety net to restore from if you change your mind or make a mistake.
For detailed instructions, please follow our complete guide here: How to Create and Restore a Backup of your Minecraft Server.
Please ensure your backup is complete before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Stop Your Server
To prevent any files from being in use, you must first stop your server. You can do this by clicking the "Stop" button on the main "Console" page of your panel.
Step 3: Delete the World Folder
This is the step where you will actually delete the world files. The server will automatically generate new ones on the next startup.
- In the panel sidebar, navigate to the "File Manager".
- You will see a list of all your server files. Locate the folder named "world".
- Select the checkbox next to the "world" folder.
- Click the "Delete" button. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.
Note: If you have changed the name of your world in the server.properties
file, you will need to delete the folder with that custom name instead (e.g., "my-epic-world").
Step 4: Start Your Server
Navigate back to the "Console" page and click the "Start" button. Your server will now boot up and generate a brand-new, fresh world. The first startup may take slightly longer as it creates the new map files.
Tip: Resetting Only the Nether or The End
Don't want to reset your entire overworld? You can reset individual dimensions to gather new resources or fight the Ender Dragon again. To do this, follow the same steps above, but instead of deleting the "world" folder, delete one of these:
- world_nether: Deletes the Nether dimension.
- world_the_end: Deletes The End dimension.
Conclusion
That's all there is to it! Resetting your world is a simple but powerful way to manage your server. Whether you're starting a new season or fixing corruption, you can get a fresh map in just a few clicks with MintServers.
