Tired of constantly asking your friends to read out their coordinates? The Player Locator Bar is an awesome HUD feature that temporarily replaces your XP bar to show you exactly where your friends are, complete with distance and elevation indicators!
Whether you want to easily group up with your friends or completely disable the feature to make survival more challenging, let us walk through how to toggle the locator bar for both Java and Bedrock editions.
ℹ️ Important Note
By default, the Player Locator Bar is automatically enabled in Java Edition starting in Minecraft 1.21.6.
Enabling / Disabling in Java Edition
The fastest and easiest way to turn this feature on or off in Java Edition is by using an in-game gamerule command. You must have Operator (OP) permissions on your server to run this.
- Join your Minecraft server.
- Open the in-game chat and type one of the following commands depending on what you want to do:
- Press Enter. The change will take effect immediately for all players on the server!
Enabling / Disabling in Bedrock Edition
For Bedrock Edition, the setting is managed directly through your world settings menu rather than an in-game command.
- Before starting your game, navigate to your World Settings.
- Scroll down to the Multiplayer Options tab.
- Locate the Locator Bar feature in the list.
- Toggle the switch to ON or OFF to match your preference.
- Start your world and the settings will be applied!
🛠️ Troubleshooting the Locator Bar
Command not working in Java: If you receive a permission error while typing the gamerule command, double-check that you have properly granted yourself OP permissions through your MintServers Console.
No worries if your server is still being stubborn and refusing to display the bar! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and instruct you on how to resolve the configuration.
