Managing your community and tweaking world settings on the fly is a huge part of running a successful Vintage Story server. To do most of this, you will need administrator privileges, also known as becoming an OP!
Luckily, giving yourself or your trusted friends admin powers only takes a few seconds using your server console. Let us get your permissions set up!
Step 1: Granting Admin Privileges
We will use a simple console command to promote a player to an admin role.
- Log into your MintServers panel and select your Vintage Story server.
- Navigate to the Console tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- Make sure your server is online and running.
- In the command input box at the bottom, type
/op [YourUsername](make sure to replace [YourUsername] with the exact in-game name of the player). - Press Enter. The console will confirm that the player has been promoted to the admin role!
- Connect to your server, and you will now have full access to administrator commands.
Step 2: Removing Admin Privileges
If you ever need to demote a player and return them to standard survival permissions, you can easily revert their role back to a regular player (which Vintage Story refers to internally as a "suplayer").
- Navigate back to the Console tab on your MintServers panel.
- In the command input box, type the following command:
/player [TheirUsername] role suplayer - Press Enter. The player's administrative permissions will immediately be revoked.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Commands
If you type the command and the console says the player cannot be found, double-check the spelling. Vintage Story usernames are case-sensitive! Additionally, ensure the player has actually joined the server at least once so the server recognizes their account.
If you are still having trouble getting your admin permissions to work or your commands are not registering in-game, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and configure your roles for you.
