How to Kick, Ban & Unban Players on Your Abiotic Factor Server

Need to deal with a disruptive player on your Abiotic Factor server? You've got a few options: kick them for a temporary removal, or ban them to block them entirely, either live in-game or ahead of time by editing a file. This guide covers all of it.

💡 Admin Access Required: You need admin privileges on your server to use these tools. See our guide on adding admins to your Abiotic Factor server if you haven't set that up yet.

Kicking A Player

A kick disconnects a player immediately, but doesn't stop them from rejoining right away. It's best for minor issues or a first warning.

  1. Connect to your server with your admin account.
  2. Press Esc to open the main menu.
  3. Select Player Management.
  4. Click the Admin tab.
  5. Find the player in the list, hover over their name, and choose Kick.

Banning A Player

A ban blocks a player from reconnecting entirely. There are two ways to do it, live in-game or ahead of time by editing a file.

Method 1: Banning In-Game

Use this method to ban a player who's currently connected and causing problems.

  1. Connect to your server with your admin account.
  2. Press Esc, select Player Management, then click the Admin tab.
  3. Find the player in the list, hover over their name, and choose Ban.

Method 2: Banning By Editing Admin.ini

Use this method to pre-emptively block a known troublemaker, even if they aren't currently online, or you don't want to wait for the server to be running.

⚠️ Important Warning: Always make sure your server is completely stopped on your MintServers panel before editing configuration files. If you edit the file while the server is running, your changes may be overwritten when it shuts down!
  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button to safely shut down your server.
  2. Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Browse to the following path:
📁 AbioticFactor
📁 Saved
📁 SaveGames
📁 Server
📄 Admin.ini (Click to edit this file)
  1. Open Admin.ini and add a [BannedPlayers] section with one BannedPlayer= line per player, using their Steam64 ID:
📄 Admin.ini
[BannedPlayers]
BannedPlayer=76561198000000003
  1. Click the Save Content button at the top right of the file editor.
  2. Navigate back to the Console tab and click Start.

Unbanning A Player

You can unban a player either in-game or through the file, whichever method you used to ban them:

  • In-game: Press Esc, select Player Management, click the Admin tab, scroll to the Banned Players section, find the player, and click Unban.
  • Via Admin.ini: Stop your server, open Admin.ini, remove their BannedPlayer= line from the [BannedPlayers] section, save, and start your server again.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Kick & Ban Issues

  • Don't see the Admin tab: This means your account doesn't have admin privileges yet. Double-check your admin setup and reconnect.
  • Kicked player keeps rejoining and causing issues: Kick is temporary by design. If they keep coming back, use Ban instead to block them entirely.
  • Banned player can still connect: Confirm their line is under [BannedPlayers], not [Moderators], and that the server was restarted after saving.
  • Wrong Steam64 ID: Double-check the ID with a Steam ID lookup tool. A single incorrect digit will stop it from matching the right account.
  • Unbanned player still can't see the server: Try restarting the server after unbanning them.

And that's it, you now have full control over who can and can't play on your server! If you run into any trouble with the admin menu or getting a ban to stick, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly help you get it sorted out.
