How to Transfer a Singleplayer or Co-op Host Character to Your Palworld Server

When you transfer a co-op or single-player save to your dedicated server, everything comes across except one thing: the host's own character, who gets reset to level 1. If you were the host and want your levels, Pals, and unlocks back, a community-made tool called PalworldSaveTools can migrate your original character's data onto your new server character. This process is commonly known as a "host save fix".

⚠️ Important Warning: This process involves editing save files directly with a third-party tool that isn't made or supported by MintServers or Pocketpair. It works well for most people, but any save editing carries risk, so back up your server save before you start and proceed at your own risk. Also check that the latest PalworldSaveTools release supports the current Palworld version before proceeding, since the tool can temporarily break right after a game update.

Before You Start

This guide assumes you've already uploaded your co-op or single-player world to your server by following our save transfer guide. You'll also need to download PalworldSaveTools from its official GitHub releases page — grab the version for your operating system (Windows, Linux, and Mac are all supported) and extract it. No other software is required.

Step 1: Create A New Character On Your Server

  1. Connect to your Palworld server and create a new character when prompted.
  2. Level this character up at least once, to level 2. This makes sure the server actually writes a save file for them, which the tool needs in the next steps.
  3. Save the world by running /Save in chat (if you're set up as an admin), or simply wait a few minutes for the server's automatic save.
  4. Disconnect, then Stop your server from the MintServers panel.

Step 2: Download Your Save Files

  1. With your server stopped, go to the Files tab in the left sidebar.
  2. Navigate to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ and open the world folder inside (the one named with a long string of letters and numbers).
  3. Download the Level.sav file and the entire Players folder, keeping them together in one folder on your computer.

Step 3: Migrate Your Character With PalworldSaveTools

  1. Open PalworldSaveTools and choose the Fix Host Save option.
  2. Click Browse next to the Level.sav path field and select the Level.sav file you downloaded. Make sure your downloaded Players folder sits right next to it in the same folder.
  3. In the left field, select your original host character — it's the one with the ID 00000001.sav, since the game always assigns that ID to the host of a local save.
  4. In the right field, select the new character you created on the server in Step 1.
  5. Click Migrate and let the tool finish.

Step 4: Upload The Fixed Files And Start Your Server

  1. Back on the Files tab, return to the same world folder from Step 2.
  2. Upload the updated Level.sav and Players folder, replacing the existing files.
  3. Start your server and connect.

You should now load in as your original character, with your levels, Pals, inventory, and technology unlocks restored.

💡 Pro Tip: If the tool refuses to load your Level.sav with a message about the save format being outdated, load the world once in-game first (on the server or locally) so the game updates the save structure to the current version, then download the files and try again.

If your character doesn't come across correctly or the tool gives you trouble, restore the backup you made at the start so nothing is lost. And if you get stuck anywhere along the way, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will be happy to help you sort it out.
