How to Install Hytale Mods & Plugins

One of the best parts of hosting a Hytale server is customizing it! Whether you want to add simple quality-of-life features or complex gameplay changes, you need to install Mods or Plugins.

At MintServers, we make this process incredibly simple with our 1-Click Installer, but you can also upload files manually if you prefer. Let us walk through how to get your custom content loaded up and ready to play.

⚠️ Important Warning:
Always ensure the file you download matches your server's current version. Installing a mismatched mod is the #1 cause of server crashes! We highly recommend creating a backup before installing new content.

Method 1: Using the 1-Click Mod Installer (Easiest)

Our control panel connects directly to a database of popular Hytale mods and plugins, allowing you to install them without ever leaving the website.

  1. Log into your MintServers game panel.
  2. On the left-side menu, look for the Hytale Mods tab.
  3. Use the Search Bar to find the specific mod you want.
  4. Click the Install button next to the mod name.
  5. The panel will automatically download the correct version and place it in the right folder.
  6. Head to your Console tab and Restart your server to enable the new mod!

Method 2: Manual Server Installation

If the mod you want isn't in our auto-installer (for example, a custom mod from GitHub or a private developer), you can upload it manually.

  1. Download the mod or plugin (usually a .jar file) to your computer. (Note: We recommend sticking to trusted platforms like CurseForge for security).
  2. Click Stop on your MintServers panel to take your server offline.
  3. Go to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  4. Navigate to the appropriate folder for your content:
📁 server (main server directory)
📁 mods
(Drag and drop your gameplay mod .jar files here)
📁 earlyplugins
(Drag and drop your server management .jar files here - click New Folder to create this if it is missing!)
  1. Once your files are uploaded, head back to the Console and click Start. Watch the startup logs for a confirmation message that the mod has loaded!

Installing Mods on Your Client (Player Side)

If you want to play with mods installed on your own computer (client-side), you can install them using the CurseForge App or manually.

Option A: Using the CurseForge Launcher (Recommended)

The CurseForge App is the safest and easiest way to manage mods on your PC without messing with system folders.

  1. Download and install the CurseForge App from their official website.
  2. Open the app and select Hytale from the game list.
  3. Click Browse for Mods or search for an existing Modpack.
  4. Click Install next to the mods you want.
  5. Click Play within the app to launch the game with your mods loaded!

Option B: Manual Client Installation

If you prefer not to use a launcher, you can place the files directly into your specific user data folder on your computer.

  1. Download the mod .jar file from a trusted source.
  2. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
  3. Type %appdata% and press Enter.
  4. Navigate to the following folder path:
📁 AppData
📁 Roaming
📁 Hytale
📁 UserData
📁 Mods
(Drop your .jar files here - create the Mods folder manually if it does not exist)
  1. Launch the game, and your client-side mods will be active!

🛠️ Troubleshooting Mod Errors

Server crashes on startup: Double-check that your mods match your server's current game version. Whenever you encounter a specific problem with a plugin causing crashes, we recommend reaching out to the developer directly on their mod page.

No worries if your mods are still refusing to load properly! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and instruct you on how to resolve the configuration.
