Moving your community to a new host should be an exciting upgrade, not a stressful chore! If you are migrating from Exaroton to MintServers, you can easily bring your existing world, player data, and configurations with you so you do not have to start from scratch. The process simply involves downloading your files from Exaroton and uploading them to your new panel.
Before you begin, ensure your new MintServers instance is set to the exact same game and version (for example, Minecraft Paper 1.20.4) as your old Exaroton server. Loading a world on the wrong version can cause permanent corruption!
Step 1: Download Your Files From Exaroton
First, we need to pack up your existing server files so they can be moved safely.
- Log into your Exaroton control panel and click the Stop button to completely shut down your server.
- Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand menu.
- If you only want to migrate your world, locate your main world folder (usually named world). If you want to migrate everything including mods or plugins, you will need to select all the necessary folders.
- Click the download icon next to the folder or files. Exaroton will automatically compress them into a .zip archive and download it to your computer. Wait for this download to fully complete.
Step 2: Upload to MintServers
Now that you have your .zip file, it is time to unpack it on your new host.
- Log into your MintServers panel and make sure your server is Stopped.
- Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- If your server already generated a default world folder on its own, select it and delete it so it does not conflict with your incoming files.
- Drag and drop your downloaded .zip file from your computer directly into the panel's file manager. If your file is extremely large (over 100MB), we highly recommend using an SFTP client like FileZilla for a faster, more stable upload. You can follow our SFTP Connection Guide to get connected.
- Once the .zip file is uploaded to your panel, click the three dots next to it and select Unarchive. This will extract all your files into the main directory.
Step 3: Verify Your Startup Settings
The files are in place, but your server needs to know what to load when it boots up.
- Navigate to the Server Properties tab on your MintServers panel.
- Locate the level-name text box.
- Ensure the text in this box perfectly matches the name of the world folder you just extracted. For most Minecraft servers, this is simply world. Remember that this field is case-sensitive!
- Return to the Console tab and click Start.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Your Migration
As the server boots up, it will read your imported files and launch your existing world. When you connect in-game, your buildings, inventory, and progress will be exactly where you left them.
If the server crashes or generates a brand new world, the issue is usually related to your startup settings or file paths. Double-check your Server Properties tab spelling and ensure you extracted the files directly into the main directory rather than inside an extra sub-folder. If you need any help with the transfer, just open a support ticket and I will gladly instruct you on how to get it fully migrated!
