Moving your server to a different region is a great way to improve your ping and get a smoother connection if you or your players are experiencing lag. Thanks to our latest panel update, migrating your files to a brand new datacenter is now completely automated and takes just a few clicks!
Step 1: Prepare for the Transfer
Before initiating a move, we always recommend making sure your data is safe.
- Log into your MintServers panel and navigate to the Console tab.
- Click the Stop button and wait for the server to fully shut down.
- Navigate to the Backups tab on the left-hand sidebar and create a quick manual backup of your world just to be safe.
Step 2: Initiate the Location Change
Now that your server is offline and backed up, we can start the migration.
- On the left-hand sidebar, navigate to the Settings tab.
- Look for the brand new Change Location button and click it.
- A dropdown menu will appear showing the global datacenters available to you. (Please note: The specific locations you see will depend on your current hosting plan and the availability of nodes in that region.) Select the region that is geographically closest to you and your players.
- Confirm your selection to begin the transfer.
Step 3: Wait for Migration
The panel is now securely packing up your files and sending them across the globe to your new node. The time this takes depends entirely on how large your server files are. A fresh vanilla server might take a minute, while a massive modpack could take significantly longer.
Once the panel indicates the transfer is 100% complete, navigate back to your Console tab. You will notice your server has a brand new IP address! Share this new connection IP with your players, click Start, and enjoy your upgraded ping.
If the transfer process seems to get stuck, or if you accidentally selected the wrong location, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and get your server moved to the right spot.
