Arma Reforger servers are controlled by a configuration file called config.json. You can change the most common options straight from your MintServers panel, and anything not available there can be changed by editing the file directly. This guide explains where to find each option and what the most important ones do.
Changing Settings From the Panel
Your server's settings are split across two tabs in the MintServers panel:
- Game Settings: the basic, most commonly used settings.
- Advanced Settings: the other available settings.
- Log into your MintServers panel and open your Arma Reforger server.
- Open the Game Settings tab for basic options, or the Advanced Settings tab for everything else.
- Change the values you want and save your changes.
- Restart your server from the Console tab so the changes take effect.
What the Main Settings Do
The setting names below are the names used inside config.json. The labels in the panel may look slightly different, but they control the same options.
Server Info
name- The server name shown in the server browser (up to 100 characters). New servers are named "Hosted by MintServers", so change it to something unique that players can search for.password- The password players must enter to join. Leave it empty for a public server.passwordAdmin- The password used for in-game admin access. See our Arma Reforger Become Admin guide.visible- Whether your server is listed in the server browser. On by default.
Gameplay
scenarioId- The scenario your server runs. See our Arma Reforger Change Scenario guide for the full list.maxPlayers- The maximum number of players, from 1 to 128. New servers start at 32.crossPlatform- Lets players on all platforms (PC, Xbox and PlayStation) join your server. This setting is not in the default file, so your server only accepts PC players until you add it. See our Arma Reforger Enable Crossplay guide.disableThirdPerson- Forces first-person view for all players.battlEye- Turns the BattlEye anti-cheat on or off. On by default.
View Distance
serverMaxViewDistance- The maximum view distance players can use, in meters. New servers start at 2500 (allowed range 500 to 10000).networkViewDistance- How far away objects are streamed to players over the network. New servers start at 1000 (allowed range 500 to 5000).
AI and Saving
These settings belong in a separate operating section, which is not in the default file. To use them, add the section directly under the very first { at the top of config.json, with only the settings you want inside it. Keep the comma after the closing brace. For example:
aiLimit- The maximum number of AI characters. The default of -1 means unlimited.disableAI- Turns AI off completely.playerSaveTime- How often player data is saved, in seconds. The default is 120.joinQueue→maxSize- How many players can wait in line when the server is full. 0 disables the queue (the maximum is 50).
Editing config.json Directly
Some options are not available in the panel tabs and can only be changed by editing config.json yourself.
- Go to the Console tab and click the Stop button.
- Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar and open
config.json. - Change the values you want. Only change the values, and leave the structure of the file as it is. Here is what the
gamesection looks like on a new server:
- Click the Save Content button at the top right of the file editor.
- Navigate back to the Console tab and click Start.
Settings such as
bindAddress, bindPort, publicAddress and publicPort control how your server connects to the network. Leave these as they are unless our support team asks you to change them.

Troubleshooting
Server will not start after editing:This is almost always a typo inconfig.json, such as a missing comma, quote or bracket. Paste the file into any online JSON validator to find the problem.A setting has no effect:Setting names are case-sensitive, sobattlEyeworks butbattleyedoes not. Also make sure you restarted the server after saving.Players cannot find the server:Check thatvisibleis turned on, or have players use Direct Join instead. See our Arma Reforger Join Server guide.
If you run into any trouble getting your settings right, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and get it sorted out together.
