Avorion Server Configuration: How to Edit server.ini Settings

Every Avorion server is controlled by a single settings file called server.ini. From difficulty and PvP to autosave timing and player limits, this is where you shape how your galaxy plays. This guide shows you where to find it and what the most useful settings do.

⚠️ Important Warning: Always stop your server on the MintServers panel before editing server.ini, or the server will overwrite your changes. Avorion is also strict about this file: if it contains a mistake, the game can rebuild it with default settings and a brand new seed. Download a backup copy before you make changes.

Step 1: Open server.ini

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click Stop.
  2. Open the Files tab in the left sidebar.
  3. Open your galaxy folder and click server.ini to open the editor:
📁 galaxy (your main server directory)
📁 Avorion (your galaxy name)
📄 server.ini (Click to edit this file)

Step 2: Edit Your Settings

Settings are grouped under headings such as [Game], [Administration] and [System]. Each line follows a simple Setting = value format. Change only the value and leave everything else as it is.

Common Settings

Gameplay

  • Difficulty: A number from -3 to 3 (-3 Beginner, -2 Easy, -1 Normal, 0 Veteran, 1 Expert, 2 Hardcore, 3 Insane). The default is 0.
  • HardcoreEnabled: Turns on perma-destruction, where destroyed ships cannot be rebuilt at a repair dock.
  • InfiniteResources: Gives everyone unlimited resources, similar to a creative mode.
  • PlayerToPlayerDamage: Set to false to disable PvP damage.
  • CollisionDamage: Collision damage multiplier from 0 (none) to 1 (full).
  • LogoutInvincibility and LogoutInvincibilityDelay: Keep a player's ships indestructible while they are offline, after the set number of seconds (default 30).
  • sameStartSector: When true, all new players start in the same sector.
  • MaximumPlayerShips, MaximumPlayerStations and MaximumBlocksPerCraft: Limits on what players can own or build. A value of -1 means unlimited.
  • PlayerInventorySlots: Size of each player's inventory (default 1000).

Server Info & Access

  • name and description: What players see in the server list.
  • password: Players must enter this to join. Leave it empty for no password.
  • maxPlayers: The maximum number of players online at one time (default 10).
  • accessListMode: Choose Blacklist (block specific players) or Whitelist (only listed players can join).
  • pausable: Allows the server to be paused when set to true.

Saving

  • saveInterval: Seconds between automatic saves. The default is 600 (10 minutes).
⚠️ Leave The Seed Alone: Do not change the Seed value on a galaxy that already has progress. The seed controls how the galaxy is generated, so changing it on an existing save can break your world.
💡 Networking Section
Ports are assigned by MintServers, so we recommend leaving the [Networking] section unchanged unless our support team tells you otherwise.

Step 3: Save And Start

  1. Click Save Content in the file editor.
  2. Go back to the Console tab and click Start.

Troubleshooting

🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Changes disappeared: The server was running when you saved. Stop it first, edit the file again, then start it.
  • Settings reset to defaults or the galaxy looks new: The file likely contained a typo, so the game rebuilt it. Restore your backup copy and edit it again, changing only the values.
  • Can't find server.ini: Start the server once and let it finish loading so the galaxy files are generated, then stop it and check the Files tab again.

Once your settings are saved and the server is back online, your changes are live. If something does not look right, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and get it sorted out together.
