How to Use Necesse Server Console Commands

Necesse gives you a full set of admin and chat commands for managing your world and players. Commands can be typed straight into the server console, or into the in-game chat if your account has the required permission level.

Every command belongs to one of five permission tiers: User, Moderator, Admin, Owner, and Server. Higher tiers include everything below them. If you're hosting singleplayer or you're the one who started the server, you already have every permission. Players who join get User permissions by default, and you can raise their tier with the /permissions command below.

⚠️ Important Warning: Commands marked "Cheats" below will show a warning before running, and using any of them permanently disables achievements on that world. This cannot be undone.

Setting Up Permissions

Before your moderators or admins can use their commands, they need to be assigned a permission level. There are two ways to do this:

  1. Have an existing Owner run /permissions set in chat, replacing with User, Moderator, Admin, Owner, or Server.
  2. Launch the server with the -owner parameter. Anyone who joins using that exact name is automatically given Owner permissions.
📌 Note: You can check your own permission level at any time by typing /mypermissions in chat.

User Commands

These are available to every player on the server by default.

  • /help [page/command] — Lists all commands, or details on a specific one
  • /playtime — Shows your current playtime on the server

  • /w, /whisper, or /pm — Sends a private message to another player

Owner Commands

The highest tier below Server, meant for whoever runs the world.

  • /itemgnd [slot] [key [value]] — Gets or sets item ground data (Cheats)
  • /jobsearchrange — Sets the job search tile range for settlers
  • /language — Sets the server's language
💡 Pro Tip: Running /allowcheats is permanent for that world and immediately disables achievements. Only use it on worlds where you're not chasing achievement progress.

If you're unsure which permission level to give someone, start them at Moderator and raise them to Admin or Owner only once you trust them with world-editing commands. If you run into any issues getting commands or permissions working as expected, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly take a look.
