Necesse supports mods from the Steam Workshop as well as manually installed .jar files. This guide covers both methods, so you can pick whichever fits the mod you're after.
Method 1: Steam Workshop Mods
The easiest option, since the server downloads and updates these mods on its own.
- Find the mod you want on the Necesse Steam Workshop and copy its page URL.
- The Workshop ID is the number at the end of the URL. For example, in
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3574352062, the ID is3574352062. - Log into your MintServers panel and Stop your server.
- Find the Steam Workshop Mods field and enter your Workshop ID. For multiple mods, separate each ID with a comma, for example
3574352062,3549799893,3507626499. - Save your changes and Start your server. The mods will download automatically and stay updated on future restarts.
Method 2: Manually Installing a Mod
Use this for mods that aren't on the Steam Workshop, or mod .jar files you already have.
- Log into your MintServers panel and Stop your server.
- Open the Files tab and navigate to the
modsfolder. - Upload your mod's
.jarfile directly into that folder. - Start your server.
📁 server (your main server directory)
📁 mods (upload your .jar files here)
.jar straight from your local Workshop folder instead of hunting for a separate download, it's usually at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1169040\, inside the folder matching the mod's Workshop ID.
Getting Your Players Set Up
Once your mods are installed, share the exact list with your players so they can subscribe to the same ones on their end. Bundling them into a single Steam Workshop Collection makes this much easier, players just subscribe to the collection instead of each mod individually.
🛠️ Troubleshooting
Mod mismatch when joining:The player's mod list doesn't exactly match the server's. Confirm they've subscribed to every mod your server is running, and nothing extra.Workshop mod not downloading:Double-check the Workshop ID for typos, IDs are numeric only, and make sure the mod is still available on the Workshop.Manually uploaded mod not loading:Make sure the.jarfile was uploaded directly into themodsfolder and not a subfolder, and that the server was fully restarted after uploading.
That covers getting mods up and running on your server. If a specific mod still won't load correctly, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly take a look.
