Aska keeps all of its server settings in a single text file called server properties.txt. From there you can rename your server, add a password, choose a game mode and, with custom mode enabled, fine-tune everything from monster density to the length of a year.
This guide shows you where to find the file, what every setting does, and how to set up the Steam login token (GSLT) that your server needs to show up in the server list.
Step 1: Open server properties.txt
- Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button to safely shut down your server.
- Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- Find
server properties.txtin the file list. The file name has a space in it, not an underscore.📁 Files (your server's root directory)
📄 server properties.txt (Click to edit this file) - Click on the file to open the text editor.
Step 2: Edit Your Settings
Every setting sits on its own line, written as setting name = value. Setting names contain spaces, so type them exactly as they appear in the tables below.
- Change the values you want.
- Click the Save Content button at the top right of the file editor.
- Navigate back to the Console tab and click Start.
Aska supports a maximum of 4 players. This is a limit of the game itself, so there is no setting in
server properties.txt to raise it.
Core Settings
These settings are always available, whichever game mode you use.
| Setting | What It Does |
|---|---|
server name | The name of your server in the in-game server list. |
display name | The name shown for a new save. Existing saves keep their own world name. |
password | The password players need to join. Leave it empty for a public server. |
save id | The ID of the save the server loads. See our Upload an Existing Save guide. |
seed | The world generation seed. Leave it empty for a random world. |
mode (default: normal) | normal or custom. Custom mode unlocks the settings in the next section. |
region (default: default) | The region your server is hosted in. Use default for the best ping. |
keep server world alive (default: false) | With true the world keeps running when nobody is online. With false the world pauses while the server is empty. |
autosave style (default: every morning) | How often the world is saved: disabled, every 5 minutes, every 10 minutes, every 15 minutes or every morning. |
steam game port (default: 7777) | The port players use to connect to the game. |
steam query port (default: 27015) | The port used by the Steam server list. |
authentication token | Your Steam Game Server Login Token (GSLT). Your server needs this to appear in the server list. See the GSLT section below. |
Available regions: default, asia, japan, europe, south america, south korea, usa east, usa west, australia, canada east, hong kong, india, turkey and usa south central.
Your server's ports are already set up for you. Leave
steam game port and steam query port at their current values unless our support team asks you to change them.
Custom Mode Settings
To change how the world itself behaves, set mode = custom in your file. This unlocks the settings below. If mode is set to normal, these settings are ignored.
| Setting | Options | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
invasion difficulty | off, easy, normal, hard | The difficulty of raid events (invasions). |
monster density | off, low, medium, high | How densely monsters are spread across the world. |
monster population | low, medium, high | The overall number of monsters. |
bear population | low, medium, high | How many bears spawn. |
herbivore population | low, medium, high | How many herbivores spawn. |
wulfar population | low, medium, high | How many Wulfar NPCs there are. |
day length | minimum, reduced, default, extended, maximum | The length of an in-game day. |
year length | minimum, reduced, default, extended, maximum | The length of an in-game year. |
starting season | spring, summer, autumn, winter | The season the world starts in. |
precipitation | 0 (sunny) to 6 (soggy) | The level of rain. |
terrain aspect | smooth, normal, rocky | How rough the terrain is. |
terrain height | flat, normal, varied | How much the terrain height varies. |
structure decay | low, medium, high | How quickly buildings decay. |
seed, terrain aspect and terrain height settings shape the world when it is first generated, so they cannot change a world that has already been created.
Example Configurations
Here are two ready-to-use examples. Copy the lines you like into your server properties.txt, keeping any lines you already have for settings not listed here.
Setting Up Your GSLT Token
Aska servers need a Steam Game Server Login Token (GSLT) to connect to Steam. Without one your server will still start, but it will not appear in the in-game server list, so nobody will be able to find it. To create a token you need a Steam account in good standing that has a qualifying phone number and owns Aska.
- Open Steam's Game Server Account Management page and sign in with the Steam account that owns Aska.
- Under Create a new game server account, enter
1898300as the App ID and any memo you will recognize later, such as MintServers Aska. This is the ID of the Aska game itself. Do not use the ID of the dedicated server tool (3246670), or your server will not be listed. - Click Create, then copy the token that Steam gives you.
- Stop your server and open
server properties.txtagain. - Paste your token after
authentication token =on that line and click Save Content. - Start your server. The token is only read when the server starts, so a restart is required after adding it.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Config Issues
Changes not applying:Stop the server completely before editing, save the file, then Start it again. Settings are only read when the server starts.A setting is ignored:Check the spelling and remember that setting names use spaces, not underscores. Settings from the Custom Mode table only work whenmode = customis set.Server not in the list:Your GSLT is missing or was created with the wrong App ID. Create a new token for App ID1898300, add it toauthentication tokenand restart the server.Server started a brand new world:Check that thesave idline matches the name of your save folder, everything aftersavegame_. See our Upload an Existing Save guide.Terrain or seed changes do nothing:These only apply when a world is first generated. Your existing world keeps the terrain it was created with.
