How to Transfer a Singleplayer or Co-op Host Character to Your Palworld Server

When you transfer a co-op or single-player save to your dedicated server, everything comes across except one thing: the host's own character, who gets reset to level 1. If you were the host and want your levels, Pals, and unlocks back, a free browser-based tool can migrate your original character's data onto your server character in a few minutes, no downloads or throwaway characters required. This process is commonly known as a "host save fix".

⚠️ Important Warning: This process involves editing save files with a third-party tool that isn't made or supported by MintServers or Pocketpair. It works well for most people, but any save editing carries risk, so back up both your local save and your server's current save before you start, and proceed at your own risk.

Before You Start

This guide assumes you've already uploaded your co-op or single-player world to your server by following our save transfer guide. If your host character plays on Steam, have your SteamID64 or Steam profile link ready — the tool below uses it to work out your character's correct ID on the server automatically. The tool runs entirely in your browser and never uploads your save files anywhere.

Step 1: Find Your SteamID64 (Steam Players)

The converter accepts either your SteamID64 directly or a numeric steamcommunity.com/profiles link — a custom vanity URL like steamcommunity.com/id/yourname won't work. If you only know your vanity URL, paste it into any free SteamID lookup tool first to get the numeric version.

If your host character isn't on Steam (Xbox, PlayStation, or Mac), skip this step — Step 2 covers a different way to get the correct ID for you.

Step 2: Convert Your Save

  1. Open the Palworld Save Converter in your browser. It defaults to Co-op → Dedicated mode, which is what you want.
  2. Select your complete world folder (or its parent SaveGames folder) — either your local co-op save, or a downloaded copy of the world you already uploaded to your server. The tool finds everything inside automatically.
  3. From the character list that appears, choose the host character. It's the one whose ID is entirely zeros ending in a 1 (00000000000000000000000000000001) — that's the ID Palworld always assigns to the host of a local co-op or single-player save.
  4. Enter your SteamID64 or profile link in the Steam field, and the destination player ID fills in automatically. If your host isn't on Steam, connect to your dedicated server once first, note the new player ID shown in the server console, and paste that directly into the player ID field instead.
  5. Tick the box confirming you have a backup, then click Convert.
  6. Download the converted save, either as a single ZIP or as individual files.
💡 Note: This tool also reads Xbox Game Pass wgs save folders if your original session was on Game Pass rather than Steam. Everyone else's character in the world is left alone; only the host's data needs this fix.

Step 3: Upload The Converted Files

  1. Stop your server if it's running, then go to the Files tab in the left sidebar.
  2. Navigate to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ and open your world's folder.
  3. Upload the converted Level.sav and Players folder, replacing the existing files. If you downloaded a ZIP, extract it first.
📝 Uploading Multiple or Large Files? The browser-based Files tab works fine for most saves, but for large files or folders with many pieces, an SFTP client like FileZilla or WinSCP is faster and more reliable. See our guide to connecting via SFTP to get set up.

Step 4: Start Your Server And Connect

Start your server and join using the same account whose ID you used in Step 2. You should load in as your original character, with your levels, Pals, inventory, and technology unlocks restored.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

  • Still asked to create a new character: Double-check the player ID you converted to matches the one shown in your server console, and that you uploaded the converted files into the world folder your server is actually running.
  • Pals missing after a failed attempt: Don't reconvert files that already came from a failed attempt. Restore your original backup and start the conversion over from clean source files.
  • Map discovery or Global Palbox progress missing: That's stored in a separate file, LocalData.sav, which is local to each player's own game and isn't part of this transfer — it doesn't belong on the server at all.
  • Tool asks for "fresh server files" or mentions guild recovery: This only comes up in specific edge cases involving guild data. Follow the on-page prompt, providing your server's current Level.sav and Players folder when asked.

Alternative: PalworldSaveTools

If you'd rather use a downloadable app instead of a browser tool, or the converter above is temporarily unavailable, PalworldSaveTools does the same job. Since this version can't look up a destination ID on its own, first connect to your server and create a placeholder character, leveling it to 2 so the server writes a save file for it. Then open the tool, choose Fix Host Save, select your downloaded Level.sav (with the Players folder alongside it), pick your original host character on one side and the placeholder character on the other, and migrate. Upload the results the same way as Step 3 above.

If your character doesn't come across correctly or either tool gives you trouble, restore the backup you made at the start so nothing is lost. And if you get stuck anywhere along the way, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will be happy to help you sort it out.
