Almost every option for your Return to Moria server lives in one file: MoriaServerConfig.ini. This guide shows you where to find it and explains what each setting does, from your world name and password to performance options.
MoriaServerConfig.ini. Changes only take effect when the file is edited while the server is not running.
Step 1: Open The Config File
- Log into your MintServers panel, select your Return to Moria server, and click Stop.
- Open the Files tab in the left-hand sidebar.
- In your main server directory, click
MoriaServerConfig.inito open the text editor.

If you do not see the file, start your server once and stop it again. The game creates the config file the first time it launches.
Step 2: Understand The Settings
The file is split into sections. Here are the ones you will use most.
[Main]
OptionalPassword- The password players must enter to join. Leave it empty for a public server.
[World]
Name- The name of your world. This is also what players see when they join. If a world with this name already exists it is loaded, otherwise a brand new world is created.OptionalWorldFilename- Loads a specific save file. Only needed if you have two worlds with the same name.
[World.Create]
These settings are only used when a new world is created. Changing them does not alter a world that already exists.
Type-campaignorsandbox.Seed-random, or a number if you want to reuse a specific map layout.Difficulty.Preset-story,solo,normal,hardorcustom. See Change Difficulty for the full breakdown.
[Host]
ListenPortandAdvertiseAddress- Network settings for the server. Your MintServers port is assigned for you, so leave these as they are.
[Performance]
ServerFPS- The server tick rate. 60 is recommended. If your server is using too much CPU, try 30.LoadedAreaLimit- How many areas the server keeps loaded at once. Accepts a value from 4 to 32 and defaults to 12. Higher values increase memory, CPU and bandwidth use, so only raise it if you need to.
Example Configuration
Here is a simple example with a password, a custom world name and a hard campaign world:
Once you have made your changes, click the Save Content button at the top right of the editor, then go back to the Console tab and click Start.
Creating a New World
To start a fresh world, change the Name value under [World] to something new. The server will not find a world with that name, so it will create one using your [World.Create] settings. Your previous world is not affected. To return to it later, simply set Name back to the old name.
Before making big changes to your world, take a backup so you can always roll back. See How to Set Up Automated Backups for a step-by-step guide.
Other Server Files
Two more files in the same folder control player access and your welcome message:
MoriaServerPermissions.txt- See Player Permissions.MoriaServerRules.txt- See Welcome Message (MOTD).
🛠️ Troubleshooting Config Issues
My changes did not apply:Make sure the server was stopped when you edited and saved the file, then start it again. My difficulty or world type did not change:Settings under[World.Create]only apply to newly created worlds. Change the worldNameto generate a new one.Server will not start after editing:Check for typos, missing brackets around section names, or stray characters. If you are stuck, undo your last change and try again.
That covers the settings most servers need. If your config is giving you trouble, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and help you out.
