Return to Moria lets you decide who can build, who can use storage, and who is allowed on your server at all. All of this is controlled by a single file, MoriaServerPermissions.txt. This guide shows you how to edit it.
MoriaServerPermissions.txt. Edits made while the server is running may not be applied.
Step 1: Open The Permissions File
- Log into your MintServers panel, select your Return to Moria server, and click Stop.
- Open the Files tab in the left-hand sidebar.
- In your main server directory, click
MoriaServerPermissions.txtto open the text editor.
📁 server (your main server directory)
The file fills itself in as players connect to your server. Have your players join once first, and their names will be listed for you to edit.
Step 2: Set Permissions
Each player gets one line, using this format. Separate multiple permissions with a comma:
Available Permissions
Default- Uses the default permissions.Blocked- Permanently bans the player from your server.NoConstruction- Cannot build or deconstruct.QuickBuild- Can only quick-build platforms and ladders.AllConstruction- Full building rights.NoStorage- Cannot access storage containers.AllStorage- Full access to storage containers.
Examples
In this example, AdminPlayer can build and use every container, GriefPlayer is banned, and NewPlayer can only place quick-build platforms and ladders and cannot open storage.
- Click the Save Content button at the top right of the editor.
- Go back to the Console tab and click Start.
Blocking a Player Before They Join
You do not have to wait for someone to connect before banning them. Add a line with their player name and the Blocked permission while your server is stopped, and they will be unable to join.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Permission Issues
Permissions are not applying:Make sure the server was stopped when you saved the file, then start it again. Also check that the player name matches exactly.A player is not listed in the file:The file is filled in as players connect. Ask them to join once, then stop the server and check the file again.Spelling and spacing:Permission names must be spelled exactly as shown above, separated by commas.
With your permissions set, you can keep your world safe from griefers while giving trusted friends full building rights. If the file is not behaving as expected, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and help you out.
