How to Upload an Existing World to Your Space Engineers Server

Did you build an amazing base in single-player and now want to share it with your friends on a 24/7 server? You can move your existing Space Engineers world to your MintServers server in just a few steps. There is one important rule to follow, so read the warning below before you start.

⚠️ Important Warning: Do not rename the world! Your server always loads its world from a folder named World inside config/Saves. Upload the contents of your world into that folder instead of creating a new folder next to it, and leave the World Name setting on the Startup tab as it is.

Step 1: Find Your Local World

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type exactly %appdata%\SpaceEngineers\Saves and hit Enter.
  3. Open the folder named after your Steam ID (a long string of numbers).
  4. Open the folder of the world you want to upload. Inside you will see files such as Sandbox.sbc and Sandbox_config.sbc:
    📁 Saves (%appdata%\SpaceEngineers\Saves)
📁 76561198000000001 (a folder named after your Steam ID)
    📁 My Single-Player World (your world's folder)
📄 Sandbox.sbc (upload everything inside this folder)

Step 2: Upload Your World To MintServers

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button. Always make sure your server is offline before modifying files.
  2. Navigate to the Files tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Open the config folder, then Saves, then World.
  4. Delete the files currently inside the World folder. This is the default world your server was created with. Only delete the files inside, never the World folder itself.
  5. Click the Upload button and upload everything inside your local world folder (not the folder itself) into World. If your world has a Backup folder, you can leave it behind, since it only holds older backups.
  6. Make sure the files ended up directly inside the World folder. The Sandbox.sbc file must sit right there, like this:
📁 Server Root (the main view of the Files tab)
    📁 config
    📁 Saves
📁 World (upload your world's files directly into this folder)
📄 Sandbox.sbc (must sit directly inside World)
  7. Navigate back to the Console tab and click Start.
⚠️ Important Warning: Deleting the default world files is permanent. If you think you might want them later, download them to your computer before deleting.

📝 Uploading Large Worlds?
The browser-based Files tab works fine for smaller worlds, but if your world is larger than 100MB, an SFTP client like FileZilla or WinSCP is faster and more reliable. See our guide to connecting via SFTP to get set up.
💡 Pro Tip: Your world's settings and mod list are stored inside the world itself, so they come along with the upload. The server downloads your Workshop mods automatically when it starts.

Troubleshooting

  • Server generated a brand new world: The server could not find your world. Open config/Saves/World and check that Sandbox.sbc sits directly inside it and not inside another folder, like World/My Single-Player World/Sandbox.sbc. If it does, move the files up into World.
  • World will not load after renaming things: The folder must be named exactly World, with a capital W. Rename it back if you changed it, and leave the World Name setting on the Startup tab alone.
  • Upload keeps failing or timing out: Large worlds are best uploaded with SFTP. See the large worlds note above.
  • Mods are missing: Your world's mods are listed in its Sandbox_config.sbc file. Check that file and see How to Install Mods on Your Space Engineers Server for the format.

Once your world is loaded, you're ready to keep building with your friends! If you are still having trouble, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly jump in and help you get sorted out.
