How to Upload an Existing Save to Your V Rising Server

If you've been playing V Rising solo or on a private game and want to move that same world onto your MintServers dedicated server, you can upload the save folder directly, no need to start over. This guide covers finding your local save, uploading it, and pointing your server at it.

💡 Before You Start: The save format is the same between a private game and a dedicated server, so your castle, gear, and world progress will carry over. If your local world uses mods, make sure the same mods are installed on your server, or the save may not load correctly.

Finding Your Local Save

V Rising stores saves under your Windows user profile. The exact path depends on how you were playing.

Private game hosted from the V Rising client:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\Saves\v4\

Local dedicated server you ran yourself:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRisingServer\Saves\v4\

Paste either path into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter. Inside, you'll see one or more folders with long GUID-style names, each one a separate world. If you're not sure which is the right one, sort by Date Modified and pick the most recent. Open that folder and confirm you see files like ServerGameSettings.json, ServerHostSettings.json, and one or more AutoSave files, that whole folder is your save.

📝 Note: If your folder is named v3 instead of v4, your world was created on an older version of V Rising. Update your client to the current version before uploading so the save format matches what your server expects.

Rename the GUID folder to something short and memorable, like myworld, before uploading. It'll make the next steps easier.

Uploading Your Save

  1. Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button to safely shut down your server.
  2. Navigate to the Files tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Browse to the Saves folder using the path below:
  4. 📁 server (or your main server directory)
    📁 save-data
    📁 Saves
📁 v4 (upload your world folder here)
  5. Drag your renamed world folder (for example, myworld) into the file manager, or use the Upload button. If a folder with that name already exists from an earlier test, delete it first so files from two different worlds don't end up mixed together.
  6. Wait for every file inside to finish uploading before doing anything else.
📝 Uploading Multiple or Large Files? The browser-based Files tab works fine for most saves, but for large files or folders with many pieces, an SFTP client like FileZilla or WinSCP is faster and more reliable. See our guide to connecting via SFTP to get set up.

Pointing Your Server At The Save

Your server loads whichever world matches its configured Save Name. Until that matches the folder you just uploaded, it'll boot a fresh world instead.

  1. On your MintServers panel, go to the Game Settings tab.
  2. Find the Save Name field and set it to match your uploaded folder name exactly, including capitalization. For example: myworld.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Go to the Console tab and click Start.

Watch the console log as it boots. You're looking for a line confirming it loaded your save rather than creating a new one. Once it's up, connect and check that your castle, inventory, and map are intact before calling it done.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Save Upload Issues

  • Server loads a fresh world instead of your save: The Save Name on your Game Settings tab doesn't exactly match your uploaded folder name. Names are case-sensitive.
  • Save won't load or the server crashes on startup: Make sure your client and server are on the same V Rising version, and that any mods used in the save are installed on the server.
  • Upload keeps failing or times out: Large save folders can be slow over the browser file manager. Try uploading again, and avoid refreshing the page mid-transfer.

Once your world loads in and everything checks out, you and your friends are ready to keep building where you left off. If you run into any trouble getting your save transferred over, no worries! Just open a support ticket and our team will gladly help you get it sorted out.
