How To Add Admins On Your Rust Server

Having admin permissions on your Rust server is essential for moderating your community, spawning items, and managing plugins. Unlike some games that require complex configuration files, Rust allows you to grant admin privileges directly through the server console!

Let us walk through how to easily set up your admin permissions using your MintServers panel.

Step 1: Find Your Steam64 ID

Rust identifies players using their unique 64-bit Steam ID number. You will need this number to grant yourself permissions.

1. Open your web browser and go to a Steam ID finder website, such as steamid.io.
2. Paste your Steam profile URL into the search box.
3. Look for the number labeled steamID64. It will be a long string of numbers starting with 7656. Copy this number.

Step 2: Enter the Console Commands

Now that you have your Steam ID, you just need to tell the server to elevate your status to "owner".

1. Log into your MintServers game panel and select your Rust server.
2. Navigate to the Console tab on the left-hand sidebar.
3. In the command line at the bottom of the console, type the following command, replacing the placeholder information with your actual Steam ID and in-game name:

ownerid 76561198XXXXXXX "YourPlayerName"

4. Press Enter to send the command. The console should reply confirming that you have been added as an owner.

Step 3: Save the Configuration

This is a highly important step! If you do not save your server configuration, your admin privileges will vanish the next time the server restarts.

1. In the console command line, type the following command:

server.writecfg

2. Press Enter. The console will confirm that the configuration has been written and saved.

Step 4: Reconnect to the Server

Admin permissions do not apply in real-time if you are already playing.

If you are currently connected to the server, you must disconnect and reconnect for your new admin powers to activate. Once you load back in, you can press F1 to access the admin item menu and console tools!
