Admins can spawn items, teleport, manage players and control the server from the in-game console. Empyrion has three permission levels you can hand out, and the most reliable way to set them is by adding a player's Steam64 ID to your admin file. This guide will get you and your friends set up.
Step 1: Find The Steam64 ID
You will need the Steam64 ID of every player you want to promote. It is a 17-digit number that usually starts with 7656.
Step 2: Add Admins To adminconfig.yaml
- Log into your MintServers panel and click the Stop button.
- Click on the Files tab in the left-hand sidebar.
- Open the
Savesfolder and click onadminconfig.yamlto open the text editor:📁 server (your server's root directory)
📁 Saves
📄 adminconfig.yaml (Click to edit this file) - Replace the example entries under
Elevatedwith your players, using this exact format:
The Permission number decides what each player can do:
9- Admin: Full control of the server.6- Moderator: Player management.3- GameMaster: Spawning, teleporting and other game master commands.
- Save the file, go back to the Console tab and click Start.
Only use spaces in this file, never the Tab key. Each Steam64 ID should only appear once, and only the permission values 3, 6 and 9 are allowed. To remove someone's admin rights, delete their entry from the file and restart the server.
Step 3: Test Your Admin Access
- Join your server. See our Join Server guide for Empyrion if you need help.
- Press the ~ (tilde) key to open the in-game console.
- Type
helpand press Enter. If you see a list of commands, you are an admin!
Alternative: Setting Admins From The Console
You can also set roles from the console without editing any files. If your server has no admin yet, join it, open the console with the ~ key and type:
This makes you the first admin, and it only works while the server has no admin. Once you are an admin, you can promote other players with:
If either command does not work on your server, use the adminconfig.yaml method above instead.
Useful Admin Commands
The list of commands available to you depends on your permission level. Type help in the console to see all of them. A few handy ones:
help- Lists the commands available to you.gm- Toggles godmode (invulnerable and free flight).di- Toggles the debug info overlay, which shows the ID of whatever you are looking at.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Admin Issues
No permission error in the console:Double-check the Steam64 ID for typos and make surePermissionis indented in line withId, directly underneath it.Server will not start after editing:Look for duplicate Steam64 IDs, blankIdentries or Tab characters inadminconfig.yaml.Still not an admin:Make sure you restarted the server after saving the file.
