Moving a colony between your PC and your Astro Colony server is easy. This guide covers how to download a save from your server as a backup, and how to upload an existing save so you can continue playing on MintServers.
Downloading A Save From Your Server
You can download a save either from the Files tab or from inside the game.
Method A: Using The Files Tab
- Log into your MintServers panel and select your server.
- Click the Files tab in the left sidebar.
- Navigate to the
AstroColony/Saved/SaveGames/DedicatedServerfolder:
📁 AstroColony
📁 Saved
📁 SaveGames
📁 DedicatedServer (you are here)
📄 SAVENAME.sav (your server's save file)
- Find the
.savfile you want and download it to your PC.
Method B: Downloading In Game
This method requires you to be an admin on the server. If you are not one yet, follow our Become Admin guide first.
- Connect to your server. If you need help, see our Join Server guide.
- Open the in-game menu and click Server SaveGames.
- Select a save and click Download.
Saves downloaded this way are stored on your PC at %LOCALAPPDATA%\AstroColony\Saved\SaveGames\DedicatedServer.
Uploading An Existing Save
⚠️ Important Warning:
Uploading a new save means deleting the save files already on your server, which removes any progress on your current colony. This cannot be undone, so download a backup first using the steps above if you want to keep it.
Step 1: Find Your Save On Your PC
- Press
Windows Key + Ron your keyboard. - Enter the following path and press Enter:
- Find your save, named
SAVENAME.sav.
Step 2: Upload The Save To Your Server
- Log into your MintServers panel and click Stop to shut down your server.
- Click the Files tab in the left sidebar.
- Navigate to the
AstroColony/Saved/SaveGames/DedicatedServerfolder. - Delete any other
.savfiles that are already in this folder. - Upload your
.savfile into the folder. - Go to the Game Settings tab and make sure Should Load Latest Savegame is enabled.
- Save your settings and click Start on the Console tab.
💡 Pro Tip:
You do not need to change the Map Name setting to match your save file's name. The Should Load Latest Savegame toggle is what controls which save gets loaded.
💡 Large Files:
If your save is very large or the upload fails in the browser, upload it over SFTP instead. See our SFTP connection guide for the steps.
